On December 2, 2025, the Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA) Student Chapter at ¼ø»Æʦapp had the honor of participating for the first time in the Water Bowl competition during the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (FSAWWA) Fall 2025 Conference. In the Jeopardy-like competition, 3 teams from ¼ø»Æʦapp and 2 teams from UCF competed against each other through a series of 15 questions per round. The questions pertained to water chemistry and drinking water systems, and the team that answered the fastest and correctly would earn a point. All the ¼ø»Æʦapp teams prepared together for this competition with the guidance of Dr. Frederick Bloetscher. Students reviewed notes from the Water/Wastewater course and used online resources from AWWA to prepare. Despite being their first time competing, Team 1 (Gideon Chege, Lusnel Ferdinand, Rachel Fonseca) took 2nd place, demonstrating an exemplary display of character, dedication, and teamwork. The ¼ø»Æʦapp had a wonderful time at the event and are eager to participate in future Water Bowl competitions. The FWEA Student Chapter hopes its achievement will motivate current and future ¼ø»Æʦapp engineering ¼ø»Æʦapp to represent the university in similar ways.
