Spanning three weeks in Spring 2021, the ʦapp Police Department offered its inaugural Citizen’s Criminal Justice Academy (CCJA) to members of the ʦapp community. The ʦapp Police Department partnered with Drs. Calli Cain , Vaughn Crichlow , and Cassandra Atkin-Plunk to survey participants and evaluate the CCJA.
“I cannot adequately put into words the degree of investment, time, thought, commitment, collaboration, communication, and genuine care our Academy Ambassadors put into making this program a success,” wrote Deputy Chief Robin Griffin-Kitzerow, in an official commendation letter written on behalf of the ʦapp PD and given to the Criminal Justice faculty participants.
The purpose of the CCJA is to provide information regarding how the criminal justice system operates and how decisions are made. Participants learned about technology and law enforcement, safety on- and off-campus, and were able to see demonstrations, meet with ʦapp PD Officers, and ask questions. The ʦapp PD plans to offer future CCJA academies, both in-person and virtually.
