The ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app Department of Music offers four undergraduate degrees across ten concentrations, a Master of Music degree with five concentrations, and a Commercial Music Business Minor.

Bachelor of Music: Commercial Music

Commercial Music Business

¼ø»ÆÊ¦app’s Commercial Music program offers a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum to help ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app develop skills for a professional career in the music industry. The CM program offers three concentrations: Music Business, Composition, and Music Technology. All three concentrations are immersed in Hoot/Wisdom Records L.L.C., ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app’s official record label. Administered by the Commercial Music program, the label provides ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app with practical experience in the production, marketing, and distribution of sound recordings.

The Music Business concentration focuses on the business aspects of the music industry, including artist management, marketing, publishing, public relations, and other needed skills.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music Business concentration are also eligible to apply for a combined degree program, earning their B.M. in Commercial Music as well as a Masters of Nonprofit Management in only five years. This is a particularly valuable opportunity for ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app wishing to work with non-profit music organizations, such as symphony orchestras, opera companies, museums, and music festivals.

This degree program also includes an emphasis in pedagogy, consisting of more than 12 credits in pedagogy and literature. This degree program requires 120 credits.

The Bachelor of Arts in Music is a degree that balances a general study of music with elective coursework in the liberal arts and humanities, providing a well-rounded liberal-arts-based educational experience for ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app wishing to pursue a variety of academic interests. This makes the B.A. in Music an excellent program for ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app wishing toÌý double major. However, ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app in the B.A. in Music are not eligible to enroll in the Commercial Music minor or to double major in degree programs from the College of Education. This degree program requires 120 credits. Students must complete the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters B.A. foreign language requirement.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Music program are also eligible to apply for a combined degree program, earning their B.A. in Music as well as aÌýMasters of Nonprofit ManagementÌýin only five years. Several ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app Music Degrees (BA, BM in Performance, BM in Commercial Music Business) may be combined with a Masters of Nonprofit Management. Students enrolled in this Combined Degree Program graduate with both their undergraduate music degree and Master of Nonprofit Management in just five years.Ìý
