Submit Your Retirement Application

You must submit the ORP Retirement Application (ORP‑RETIRE‑1) to initiate retirement:

Option 1 (Recommended): Submit online via FRS Online

• Log into and complete the ORP retirement application
• No notarization required
• Fastest and most efficient submission method

Option 2: Paper ORP‑RETIRE‑1 Form

• Meet with ¼ø»Æʦapp Benefits to complete and notarize the form, or complete and notarize it and submit to ¼ø»Æʦapp Benefits
• Include acceptable proof of birthdate (e.g., Real ID driver’s license, passport, birth certificate)
• ¼ø»Æʦapp Benefits will certify and forward your application to the Division of Retirement

Coordinate with Your Investment Provider

• Contact your ORP provider (e.g., Corebridge, TIAA, Fidelity, Voya):
• Request distribution paperwork
• Review payout options
• After the Division of Retirement approves your application:
• Your provider will be notified
• You may then finalize and schedule your distribution

Important ORP Retirement Requirements

• You must:
• Terminate all employment with all FRS/SUS employers
• Be off payroll for 3 full calendar months before receiving a distribution
• Take a retirement distribution (any amount qualifies as a valid distribution) to be considered retired

After your first distribution, reemployment restrictions apply for FRS/SUS employers.

Important: Your retirement status (for benefits eligibility) is triggered by taking a distribution, not just separating from employment.

• Marriage certificate
• Spousal acknowledgment (if no survivor option selected)

Health Insurance Subsidy (HIS)

• Begins when pension payments start
• Included automatically when you apply online
