Transfer LEARN

T-LEARNâ„¢ is for ¼ø»Æʦapp transferring to ¼ø»Æʦapp from a state or community college.

T-LEARNâ„¢ is a learning community established at ¼ø»Æʦapp in 2016 that focuses on ¼ø»Æʦapp’ academic success and fostering growth through undergraduate research. By working with on-campus partners, T-LEARNâ„¢ provides a select group of first-year, transfer ¼ø»Æʦapp a hands-on learning experience by helping ¼ø»Æʦapp engage in research.

There are 2 distinct T-LEARNâ„¢ cohorts:

• T-LEARNâ„¢ STEM
• T-LEARNâ„¢ Arts, Business, and Humanities (ABH)

Students in this program will:

1. Experience a small learning community at a large research university. Transitioning to a large university can be a bit daunting to a first-year, transfer student. We provide opportunities for our T-LEARNâ„¢ ¼ø»Æʦapp to build one-on-one relationships with faculty, staff, and other ¼ø»Æʦapp on campus.
2. Receive priority registration.
3. Enroll in two Introduction to Research courses to produce a research proposal and poster presentation.
4. Engage in a 12-week research apprenticeship with a graduate student/faculty mentor team.
5. Participate in academic, social, and community service activities through ¼ø»Æʦapp-sponsored events to build and strengthen their network of peers.
6. Acquire skills that will make them qualified and competitive to apply to upper-level undergraduate research programs and internships.

Academics

Academics are a strong component of the T-LEARNâ„¢ program. All accepted ¼ø»Æʦapp will take two classes together. Part I, Fundamentals of Research and Inquiry, is taken in the fall semester and Part II, Introduction to Undergraduate Research Design, is taken in the spring semester. Mentoring

T-LEARNâ„¢ ¼ø»Æʦapp will have various mentors during their time in the program. Each student will be assigned a Peer Mentor who is an upperclassman involved in research. T-LEARNâ„¢ ¼ø»Æʦapp will benefit from faculty mentorship. Faculty mentors will mentor ¼ø»Æʦapp regarding the research process and they can offer invaluable advice on graduate education, research experience, and possible insight into future careers. Community

The LEARNâ„¢ community component is built on a variety of experiences together. Throughout the semester, ¼ø»Æʦapp will attend 6 academic and social events, and at least one community service event pre-scheduled through the program staff.
